I was at that concert too - in the first row on the mezzanine. It was wonderful, from when I first entered the theater and realized Mandy was already on stage rehearsing, to the most beautiful version of "Bring Him Home" I've ever heard (much better than his recording of it), to his attempt at "Eleanor Rigby" (I'm delighted he's finally discovering the Beatles!), to, well, everything else. He was in very good humor, making a lot of funny comments to the audience; he's obviously *very* excited about "The Tempest"; and his spirit is, as always, infectious.

And I'm not even 60! ;-)

Best line ever: "we are monkeys with money and guns". Thanks for this snippet of Mr. Waits. Love him.

And Kari, in regard to pulling the plug on your blog - After reading the article, I can understand why you feel that way, but personally, I hope you don't. I so enjoy reading about your adventures, and I love how you tell your stories. Any chance you might reconsider? Selfishly, I hope so.

Kari, I would have loved to question you on your lifestyle choice, as I would invite you to do the same to me, if that's what I was doing. But I don't believe obsessions are lifestyle choices, they are completely unavoidable.

RivB you are right about Mandy. I loved him in Dick Tracy, but I saw him on Letterman and he just couldn't get past the blue birds on his way back to Kansas. So I don't know where I stand.

I was in the front row too (that's weird). He told the woman that if she could raise $50,000 from the audience, he'd say it

Glad you enjoyed yourself! Mandy is a one-of-a-kind, polarizing talent. You know what pole I'm on when it comes to Patinkin, but glad he turned you on last night.

Alan! Don't question me on my lifestyle choices! Out of the six shows I've seen in the past two weeks, this is the only one that had anything to do with Sondheim. A good 40% of the program was Sondheim, which is what I would expect from a show called "Mandy Patinkin on Broadway." Which is why I bought the ticket. The two are linked in a way that "Mandy Patinkin and John Lennon and/or Tom Waits" are not. If I'd gone to see "Mandy Patinkin Sings Pop and/or Alt-whatever," the focus of this post would have been elsewhere.

Anyway, it was "Kentucky Avenue" and "Imagine." Good enough?
